Houston Vintage 2011 was a week past saturday. Why so long till I posted? Well, you talk for 14 hours to over a zillion people, and then catch a cold, and see how much of a zombie YOU become..
Anyway, now I can actually almost breath and talk like a normal human being, I wanted to write about what a great time I had at this years event. I was involved in last years event; a runway show styled with vintage clothing and featuring Violet Peacock headpieces. Last years event was great, especially for its very first year.
This year, the event took on a new format. From 10am-7pm there was a Vintage Day Market, featuring Vintage vendors from all over Houston and the surrounding areas. Violet Peacock had a stall during the day market, and it was a huge success. There was a huge amount of interest in my work, and I gave a few interviews to the local press and one video interview to the lovely Rachel of Heightsonian (See Video Below). I must have talked to a billion people, but you know what, the day FLEW past, it was so much fun being able to talk to interested people about what I do for a living.
I love my job, and I love talking about hats and fascinators with people. I guess, more importantly, I SOLD THINGS! To STRANGERS! I still get such a thrill out of that. Its always a bit of a shock when people actually want to buy my work.. Its almost secondary to me atm (and it shouldnt be, lol, I have bills to pay) but I just love the feeling that someone thinks highly enough of my work to actually pay money for it!
I also used this event to launch my newest collection “Pin Up”. It was very well received and a lot of it sold before I even managed to get photos of it. To see it, or to purchase a piece of the collection, visit my Etsy Store
Into the evening, the day market packed up and we got ready for a fashion show and after party! My “Velocity” collection had its runway debut, opening the Fashion Show, and seemed to be received very well. A runway show focusing on Hats/Headwear is not a common thing, but my Models (Thanks to Neal Hamil Modeling Agency) did great, wearing all black so that the focus was on their headwear!
One of my favourite parts of the day/evening were the Burlesque performances by Dem Damn Dames, a sexy vaudeville variety show. They were some strong, sexy, amazing women, who looked, sang and danced with such grace that I was truly inspired! Look out for a Burlesque-Inspired Hat collection soon!
All in all, it was a great day for Violet Peacock. Good sales, great feedback and the chance to meet with like-minded people and talk about my passion!
Enjoy the videos, Warning: Contains me sounding like a dork..
